Formulate Hair Care Just For You: a Review

Raise your hand if you’re one of those people that chops their hair off any time there’s a crisis or transition in your life. I’m sure we’ve all been there at one point or another. A constant debate to get bangs or to leave your hair as is. Over the years, my tender locks have gone through the wringer as I have bleached, cut and colored my hair in all kinds of ways. This pushed me to make a conscious effort to restore my hair and leave it alone. I decided to dye my hair back to it’s natural color and just stop with all the abuse.

Once I learned about Formulate, a customized shampoo and conditioner company, I was sold. A chemist that works with you to achieve your hair goals? Sign me up immediately. After cutting my hair, I was ready to grow it out for real this time. My main hair goals as a result were to lengthen, strengthen and restore the balance to my hair. This means adding back volume and moisture to my hair.

The first step is to fill out a short quiz that identifies your hair type, color and five main hair goals that you are looking to achieve. They even take your geographic location, humidity and weather into account. From there, the team at Formulate will create the perfect concoction and send it over shortly. If you find that something is off with the formula, no worries! They check in with you and will adjust as needed until it’s just right.

The shampoo and conditioner from Formulate is great because it is sulfate-free and does not contain any icky ingredients such as parabens. It is important to note that switching to a sulfate-free formula takes a moment to get used to. Typically, sulfate-free shampoos do not have that sudsy consistency that you might be used to. That’s perfectly okay. Trust me, your hair is just as clean without being stripped of its oils.

I found that my hair has thickened slightly and I have a nice amount of volume. It took some trial and error but I finally got a formula that works well with my hair. I also adore the scent, Green with Envy, which contains green tea and honey notes.
